Rochester Sweeps Festival

Let our coach take the strain as we visit Rochester’s annual Sweeps Festival on Saturday, 3rd May

Why a ‘Sweeps’ Festival? In Victorian times chimney sweeps only had one day off a year and it was on 1st May when chimney sweeps would parade down the high street dancing and singing and this revived Rochester tradition is now in its 43rd year, becoming one of the largest May Day celebrations of its kind in the world, and boasts the largest gathering of Morris groups too!

For 3 days, historic Rochester is transformed into a riot of colour and sound with the best folk musicians and bands, with hundreds of Morris dancers from across the country clattering their clogs and clashing their sticks up and down the high street. The festival also hosts a dynamic programme of international dance groups and workshops. (programme published closer to the date)

Join our day visit on Saturday, 3rd May! Watch the Parade and enjoy the many Morris dance groups performing throughout the town.

Don’t forget to visit some of Rochester’s independent shops as you walk down the High Street too ….what’s not to like!
